O-Cedar Microfiber Review

The O-Cedar Microfiber is a simple steam mop with a 400ml water tank capacity topped by a wide 1.4" opening and a 20-foot cord. It comes with a single velcro-attached mop pad. Aside from a dial-adjustable steam setting, no other attachments or features come with this straightforward mop.

Cleaning Performance

On smooth flooring without grout edges to pass over, the O-Cedar performs decently. It takes a little more time than most other models to saturate the pad fully, so you'll end up going over the same area a few times when you're just getting started. Once it's going, though, it does just fine on glossy floors. When up against textured flooring and deeper grout grooves, the velcro pad of this mop runs into some issues. Ours regularly caught on tile edges and rolled under itself. But on smooth synthetic flooring, it cleans up well.

The O-Cedar has just one mop pad and no extra scrubbing features, meaning it's not the most impressive model we tested when it comes to lifting tough stains. Here again, the velcro attachment isn't our favorite, as putting pressure on the mop to get stubborn spots off can pull the pad off if your floor is textured. But if you're working in a smooth room that just needs a regular passing over with a mop, this will do the trick.

Ease of Use

The O-Cedar has a slightly small but still respectable 400ml water tank. Unlike most models with easy flip-top lids, this one screws off but is an impressive 1.4" across. However, the tank is totally opaque, so you never really know how much water is left inside.

The unit heats up in under a minute, and steam is controlled with an easy dial. It can be left unattended, standing on its own, for short periods of time, but is easily toppled. In one of our testing iterations, the whole thing fell over, and one of the plastic cord keeper arms snapped off. The pad is relatively thick and sturdy, but its velcro attachment is one of our least favorites and less effective than most other models we tested.

Maneuverability

We've already mentioned that various textured flooring causes this mop to drag and even roll the pad partly off under the mop head. Additionally, the mop head itself is triangular with slightly bowed outward edges. This means no edge is straight for easy gliding along a baseboard. It's still doable but requires a little more concentration than most other models.

The pad is slightly larger than the head, helping to clean in corners and against furniture better, though it's still not as effective as many others we tested with pads that wrap fully around the head. And though the 20-foot power cord is nothing to scoff at, it is on the shorter side compared to other models we tested.

Features

The O-Cedar falls totally flat when it comes to accessories. It has no extra attachments or features, just a single mop pad and not even a scrubbing portion for tough stains. It does have a dial to adjust its steam setting (something most models don't offer), though it doesn't seem to change the amount of steam coming out all that much.

Value

The O-Cedar Microfiber is one of the least expensive steam mops we tested. It's not the right fit for every home, but if you're only cleaning smooth floors with moderate dirt, this simple model may be exactly the right fit for your space and your budget.

Conclusion

This simple, no-frills steam mop is one of the cheapest models out there. It's not the right fit for every home and won't clean more than just your floors. However, if you don't need to deep clean and your flooring is relatively smooth, this straightforward model may be the simple solution you've been searching for.
