Contaminant Removal

Household water filters play a crucial role in safeguarding the quality of the water we consume, ensuring its safety by eliminating harmful contaminants. These filters effectively remove impurities like chlorine, lead, bacteria, and other pollutants that can pose health risks. In addition to enhancing safety, water filters also enhance the taste and odor of tap water, making it more appealing to drink. To assess the efficiency of each filter, we conducted a test using a sample of highly contaminated water and ran it through each filter. Western Environmental Testing Laboratories analyzed the resulting samples to ensure accurate and reliable data. The Bluevua RO100ROPOT proved to be one of the best filtration systems that requires no installation.

The Bluevua uses four stages of filters to remove contaminants.

It successfully removed 100% chlorine, fluoride, iron, copper, and lead. This is an important and impressive feat as these compounds can not only change the taste of the water but can also lead to health issues under the right concentrations. The filter eliminated 99.06% of sulfate (2279/2300 mg/l) from our sample. Excessive amounts of sulfate in water can cause diarrhea and contribute to dehydration. Only a few models in this review were able to rival the overall filtration performance of this filter. Whether you are concerned about the safety of your tap water or want to improve its taste, this water filter system delivers impressive results.

Taste

When selecting a water filter, taste is a critical factor as it directly influences the drinking experience of the user. Drinking water that tastes good encourages regular hydration, which is necessary for maintaining good health and well-being. In order to pinpoint the best-tasting water in our lineup, we conducted a blind taste test where each unit filtered water from a garden hose, and our panel rated each to determine their favorite. The Bluevua gave a neutral, crisp profile emulating the qualities of distilled water, which, however, sparked varied responses among our panel.

Taste is ultimately subjective; some people might prefer water that is crisp and refreshing, while others might enjoy water that has a slightly mineral or earthy taste. The Bluevua RO100ROPOT water filter system generally provides water with a neutral and light flavor reminiscent of distilled water. However, taste preferences can vary greatly among individuals. During our testing, some reviewers found the taste average, while others loved it. On the other hand, there were a few testers who did not appreciate the flavor at all. It is important to note that taste is a personal preference and can be influenced by various factors such as water source and individual sensitivity.

The filter's remarkable filtration power effectively eliminates the majority of dissolved solids, resulting in a light and refreshing taste. While this may appeal to some individuals, those who prefer water with a higher mineral content may find it lacking. The significant level of filtration leaves the water with a distilled and delicate quality that some may interpret to resemble a plastic-like flavor. Highly filtered water can often become deprived of the essential minerals that define its character. The total dissolved solids (TDS) in water play a critical role in imparting a distinctive taste, which can vary from being pleasant to less desirable, depending on the composition.

Setup and Use

Installing a water filter is a great way to ensure clean and safe drinking water. However, it may not be the best option for everyone. For renters or those short on time or money, there are alternative solutions, such as purchasing bottled water or using a faucet filter. We test every water filter in our standardized test kitchen to help you find the perfect one for your long-term needs. Our rigorous testing process ensures we set up, maintain, and evaluate the overall user experience for each filter. The Bluevua offers easy maintenance, standard efficiency, and predictable yet higher annual costs in a ready-to-go package.

The Bluevua water filter system is designed for easy setup right out of the box. The process is straightforward and can be completed quickly with a small amount of required hands-on time. Plug in the product and fill the water reservoir. The manufacturer recommends processing four to six rounds of water to help flush and prime the new filters. After that, you're ready to go. Reverse Osmosis systems often require a DIY-friendly but intimidating installation process that requires adding a tank, tapping into preexisting plumbing, and installing a separate faucet. The no-hassle and easy start-up process makes it an ideal choice for renters or anyone who does not want to go through the trouble of installing a permanent filtration system.

The Bluevua considered convenience at every stage, including its maintenance. The four filters it houses are easily accessible and can be effortlessly removed from the rear part of the unit, requiring no specialized tools and less than ten minutes. The stage one, two, and four filters typically last an estimated 12 months. The stage three reverse osmosis filter needs replacement every 12-24 months. These timelines may fluctuate depending on your usage pattern. One must note that the lifespan and associated cost of the filters give Bluevua one of the highest annual costs at $149.50. The Bluevua further enhances its user-friendliness with a digital LED screen capable of tracking the filter lifespan and issuing alerts for filter change. Additionally, the screen permits you to regulate the amount of water to be filtered and supervise water quality, allowing users to manage its usage and maintenance efficiently.

The system operates at a 2:1 wastewater-to-filtered water ratio, which means that for every liter of filtered water produced, two liters of wastewater are generated. The average reverse osmosis system will produce two to three units of waste to one unit of purified water; some systems operate at both ends of the spectrum. This ratio may not be ideal for everyone, especially those conscious of water conservation.

Should You Buy the Bluevua RO100ROPOT?

This filter is ideal for those unable to install an under-the-sink reverse osmosis system, such as renters or short-term tenants. It offers an easy and convenient way to enjoy the benefits of reverse osmosis water at home. However, due to the space impact and higher costs associated with it, homeowners or long-term tenants should consider an under-the-sink model to fulfill their reverse osmosis needs.

What Other Water Filter Should You Consider?

If you are now considering an under-the-sink reverse osmosis filter, consider the iSpring RCC7, which has a lower annual cost and best-in-class filtration with a DIY-friendly installation process. If you're looking for a simple pitcher filter that gets the job done, the ZeroWater 10-Cup 5-Stage Pitcher is what you're looking for.
